117.8 kW Industrial Solar Installation in Mississauga, Ontario
Commercial rooftop solar delivering 80.4% electricity offset for an industrial distribution facility in Mississauga.
A high daytime load against a roof asset approaching the end of its replacement cycle.
Industrial distribution facilities typically operate with steady annual electricity demand driven by lighting, material handling equipment, and warehouse operations. While electricity use is often lower than full manufacturing environments, it remains a consistent operational cost.
At PinAcle Stainless Steel’s Mississauga facility, the objective was to significantly reduce reliance on grid electricity within the constraints of a compact industrial building, achieving high on-site utilization without oversizing the installation or introducing unnecessary complexity.
Size to the service. Mount without penetrations.
A rooftop solar system was sized to the facility’s annual electricity consumption profile, enabling a high percentage of on-site solar utilisation throughout the year. Rather than maximising system size, the design focused on aligning annual generation with actual usage.
The resulting system delivers reliable on-site generation that integrates seamlessly with existing operations and electrical infrastructure. The project reached commercial operation on July 13, 2021.
The numbers, then the consequence.
- 01132,712 kWh of solar electricity generated annually.
- 0280.4% of the facility's annual electricity consumption offset by solar.
- 03System commissioned July 13, 2021.
- 04Substantial reduction in grid electricity purchases during operating hours.
Equivalent to removing 2 passenger vehicles from Ontario roads annually.
For the facilities and engineering audience.
The system consists of 117.8 kW DC (306 Canadian Solar modules) paired with 100 kW AC via Canadian Solar inverters. Designed as an industrial solar installation in Mississauga, the system was sized to maximize on-site electricity utilization and long-term operational value.
System commissioning was completed without disruption to distribution operations. Ongoing production monitoring and asset performance can be supported through a structured solar operations and maintenance program.
Facility characteristics that shaped the design.
- Industrial stainless steel distribution facility serving commercial and industrial clients
- Annual electricity demand driven by warehouse lighting and material handling
- Compact building footprint with defined rooftop constraints
